From 2008 to 2010, life as I knew it suddenly changed. If you haven’t guessed, I am speaking of the collapse of the world economy. It took away our jobs, both my job and my husband’s. Not only did it take away his job, but it took away his ability to make a living from any of his past skills. So we reinvent ourselves.

We took inventory of our lives, and we decided we did not want to go back to school this time. So where does that leave us? We took stock of our talents and interests and we tested some ideas here and there. Then we settled on a lifelong interest and hobby, collecting recipes. What can we do with that? We can share them! We can be Cookbook Authors!

We don’t need any special training because we already have the skills. We love to collect and try different recipes. We both have the natural gift and trained skills to write. We both like to tell stories and entertain. And the timing is right.

We have never been more interested in self-publishing like we are now. We have the Internet, Amazon.com and CreateSpace.com. Only once before in history has the common man been given the opportunity to reach the world with his writing. The invention of the printing press was in its day what the Internet is today. So once again in our lives, the Renaissance begins.

Our advice, don’t be afraid to reinvent yourself whenever you want to or need to.
